We always scanned the actor’s neutral expression first, followed by a FACS scan—a set of 36 predefined facial expressions used to animate the character’s face realistically.
It was crucial to capture each expression with absolute precision according to the requirements of the Warhorse graphics team, as the accuracy of these scans directly influenced the detailed facial animation. Their goal was to achieve hyper-realism, making every nuance of expression feel natural and lifelike.
The entire scanning process took over a month. Each facial expression was carefully reviewed, and in many cases, we had to repeat the scan multiple times to ensure the highest level of accuracy.
